East Coast Ikan Bakar & Taiwan Set Dinner @ Sungai Penang Food Court, Penang. 06 July 2009
taiwan set dinner
east coast ikan bakar
- Never visit the new opening food court at sungai penang. I heard that it was quite crowded. So I directly go there after my office hours, and meet my friend there. Reach there around 6 pm+, not very crowded and easily found a parking lot. Got around 10 ++ stall there. Look interesting and I a just ordinary penang “people” and I just want to try the “new toilet”. I just hanging around and not sure what should I ordered. Finally I decided to ordered the Taiwan Set Dinner. Unfortunately the Taiwan Set Dinner is quite disappointed. The set dinner is served with one fried egg, soup, chicken with mayonis sauces and sausages. Feel like the set dinner is like no taste at all !!!
- Luckily the east coast ikan bakar is not disappointed me. I heard that this bali style food court is same boss as the Bali Bali Farlim and this stall of ikan bakar are the one at East Coast Coffee Shop, Paya Terubong. Thanks god the quality are maintain.
- The other times I visited this food court again and my camera is not with me. The chicken rice at this food court is not bad as well, quite impress me at least. Just a normal chicken rice but quite tasty. The chicken rice boss call him self as 洪金寶 chicken rice. What a creative name…..

Char Hor Fun & Thai Tom Yam @ Min Jiang Ayer Itam. 04 July 2009
Thai Tom Yam Maggi Mee
Char Hor Fun(炒河粉)
- This coffee shop is same row with Nissan Ayer Itam. Quite difficult to find parking lot there, you can park at public bank or shell petrol station. Shell petrol station parking fees is quite expensive. If you dare just park at road side. One illegal parking fees will cost you around RM 2, which is equal to one cup of drinks.
- I want to try this famous Thai Tom Yam for quite sometimes, every time either already out of stock or the stall still not yet ready or the stall is not open. I always got no fate with this Thai Tom Yam. Finally this time I got chances to taste it. The soup is a bit spicy. I feel like it was kinda expensive. It cost me around RM 6 and the prawn was not very big as well. I still prefer the tom yam noddle at Siong Ho Fish Head Noodles and Porridge at Village Cafe. (Will introduce this stall at my future post)
- The char hor fun at this coffee shop is recommended. Not much of tasty char hor fun stall at Penang…. this stall of char hor fun are one of the nice one. You can find out yourself !!!!
Char koay kak
Oct 22nd
Char Koay Kak @ Wah Meng Coffee Shop. 16 May 2009
Char Koay Kak
- Not much of Penang Char Koay Kak stall can categorized under nice or yummy anymore. This stall of Char Koay Kak is my favorite stalls. If I go Penang Dam hiking, I will drop by and took Char Koay Kak as my breakfast. The coffee also recommended, , you should have a try if you got pass by here during morning session. This coffee shop always crowded with peoples. If you scare of crowded, you can try your luck during Lunar First or Lunar Fifteenth, normally people take vegetarian on that day. Normally it will less crowded.
- My another favorite at this coffee shop: Duck Kway Chap.
- You might have a try on the Nasi Kandar or Tik Ban Mee as well.
Presgrave Street Hawker Centre (三条路小贩中心)
Oct 19th
Presgrave Street Hawker Centre @ Penang. 09 May 2009
- Quite long time never visit Presgrave Street Hawker Centre, due to limited parking lot there. Before revisit there, I totally lost my memory about the food here is nice or not. I order the Ice Kacang, surprising it was tasty than the one at new world food court. Today our main target is Hokkien Mee. As usual I will add on Xiu Yok (烧肉). The Hokkien Mee was not bad, but I still prefer the Green House one. We order another side dish-fried oyster, the fried oyster was a bit “wet” but quite tasty.

Rojak 101
Aug 19th
Rojak 101 @ Explanade. 17 March 2009
Rojak 101, Esplanade
- After having a quite “full” dinner at Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant, and it was quite early. So we just drop by esplanade to have some “dessert”. Ah bell suggest to go for rojak 101 esplanade. We all found out that the taste was so so only. As usual, last time is more better. I think some of the Penang hawker should doing a QA test every year. Or perhaps government should form a team to QA test those so called famous hawker. We might down grade or up grade their level depends on the food quality or taste, at least this way of QA test will bring out the most efficiency of “competitive advantage” and tasty food.
Balik Pulau
Aug 1st
- Food Court / kampung baru @ Balik Pulau. 17 January 2009
Laksa – kampung baru
Poh Pia – Market Food Court
Pasembor – Market Food Court
- Today, bring my sister go balik pulau to become a real tham chiak. My first target is the kampung baru Laksa/Hokkien Mee. Which declare by my friend the Laksa and Hokkien Mee is nice, and this stall only open during weekend. Even this stall is bit “cold door”, quite a lot of diner drop by, as I can see. My dad claim that the Hokkien mee was nice, when the hokkien mee is served, my dad(old tham chiak) already start enjoy it, so I not able to took any hokkien mee photo shoot. For me the laksa was just ok. Second round, we drop by the market food court. Bring my sister go there to have food juices, her favorite food juices. My favorite stall was the Pasembor. The taste, you can’t find at any other place, only here. Every time go that food court, found out that the po pia seem like quite “good business”. This time I just order to have a try. unfortunately, kinda disappointed.
- Remarks: My camera send back to Canon for repair, this pictures is took by using my Nokia N73. So the picture quality is just ok only.
Koay Teow Theng
Apr 12th
Koay Teow Theng @ Khee Cheang Leong, Kimberley Street. 21 December 2008
Koay Teow Theng
- Early morning this shop is full with diners. For me the duck meat koay teow theng is just ok for me. The taste is a bit plain. The koay teow theng is toped with duck meat, fish ball and duck blood. Lately I found out that, same row of the sire restaurant. There is one stall of koay teow theng, the taste is not bad and a bit special but a bit oily. Will introduce this stall of koay teow theng in the future post.
Extra Long Yau Char Kuai
Apr 5th
Extra Long Yau Char Kuai @ Paya Terubong. 13 December 2008
Extra Long Yau Char Kuai
with soya bean
- When you pass by Paya Terubong main road you sure will see this stall. The extra long yau char kuai is quite crispy, the taste was good. But the black soya bean is so so only, can said that is too pure and no taste at all. I will recommended you just take away the yau char kuai. Seat there is quite limited as well. Declared by the boss, they changes their oil everyday. So the oil will not be too dark or dirty if compare to others stalls.
Wan Ton Mee

- Always heard my friend told me that this stall of fried oyster is the best at town. Really feel that the taste is so so only. It was too oily as well. A bit expensive also…..I feel……
